Being a business owner is a lot of work. The hours you have in a day are limited, and sometimes things like working out can get pushed to the back burner.  

One of our Hero Members uses our 30-minute workouts to her advantage. Tevia runs a successful Bookkeeping business and only has a set amount of time in her day to get the much-needed exercise to keep her healthy and her stress levels low. 

We got a chance to talk with Tevia and learn more about her Black Box VR journey.

BBVR: Thank you, Tevia, for taking some time to share a little bit about your Black Box VR experience with us. 

Tevia:  Sure, I am so happy to share! Every time I get done with a Black Box VR workout, I am so appreciative for this awesome gym alternative! 

BBVR: Thank you for saying that. We have been working hard to bring this fitness experience to life, so we love hearing that. 

Tevia: You guys are doing a great job and changing people’s lives with this technology.

BBVR: Thank you again. What drew you to Black Box VR, and why do you find it enjoyable?

Tevia: When I heard about the private booths and 30-minute workouts, I was like, “take my money”! I love that I can work out in private and not have people staring at me. I only have so much time to dedicate to working out, so the quick 30-minute full-body workouts are perfect for my schedule. 

BBVR: Once you started working out consistently, was there anything that surprised you about the VR fitness experience?

Tevia: How much fun it is! I played soccer in high school and college and was very competitive on the field. Once I quit, I didn’t have anything that would bring out the athlete in me. The Black Box VR game puts me in an arena setting, and I have an opponent to battle. Crowds are cheering, and commentators are watching my gameplay. It makes me feel like I am back on the field again, competing to win. I have NEVER felt that at a regular gym. Never!

BBVR: So it sounds like you’ve worked out at traditional gyms in the past? What was your experience?

Tevia: I’ve trained in regular gyms for years and have never enjoyed it. I just did it because I know that exercise is vital for health. I feel better mentally when I workout. Even knowing all that, I still wouldn’t say I liked going to the gym and running on a treadmill. Boring! Lift weights over and over again? No, thank you!

BBVR: Besides the private booths and quick workouts, is there anything else you like about training in the Black Box?

Tevia: I love that I don’t have to think about what exercises to do. I just play the game, and the Black Box pushes me to do the exercises I need to win and have a full-body workout. I don’t have to choose the weight because it knows my fitness level and is always pushing me forward to work a little harder.  

BBVR: Have you had any positive physical or mental results since you’ve started going to Black Box VR? If so, In what ways? 

Tevia: Since starting Black Box VR, I am working out more consistently because the game is fun and kind of addicting. I definitely am in better shape now since starting Black Box VR. I’m stronger, leaner, and just overall healthier.   

The business I run can be very stressful, so getting my 3 to 4 workouts in during the week helps my mood tremendously. I enjoy going to Black Box because the game is so much fun! 

BBVR: Do you have any fun gameplay strategies to share?  

I like to challenge myself to beat my prior overall score and make sure I am always doing my best form with each lift! I like to start the game with exercises, doing direct attacks against my opponent’s champions. Once I take out their champions and build up my elixir, I will field a tank champion, a flying champion, and then an archer champion. This strategy helps me take down their crystal faster. 

BBVR: Do you have any favorite champions? If so, why? 

Tevia: Big Tszu is my favorite champion. He is strong and can take a lot of damage. I also really like his punch pattern. It’s a hard one to get through, but it flows. Firebird is my favorite flying champion, and I do like Lightning Tiger when I want to attack the gate right away. 

BBVR: What are your favorite exercise(s) and why? 

Tevia: I enjoy deadlifts and squats because my lower body is strong, and it makes me feel powerful to see how much weight I can move!

BBVR: What Black Box VR Achievements are you most proud?

Tevia: I love the streak achievement! It feels good when I can keep my streak alive. Plus, my minion champions will level up with new weapons the longer I keep it going. 

BBVR: Our Black Box VR mobile app has a ton of features in it. Is there anything specific you like about using the app?

Tevia: The Black Box app makes it super easy to schedule my workouts. That is important for me with my busy schedule. There are days that I schedule my workout, go straight to my booth, workout, and I don’t need to talk with anyone. It’s a time saver for when I’m in a hurry.  

The fitness stats section is something I keep a close eye on. I’m a numbers person and love data. I like that I can see every workout I’ve done and how my fitness levels have progressed over time. 

I also really enjoy receiving my loot boxes, purchasing champion upgrades, and updating my battle deck. I also like the social feature of the app. It’s fun to see how other Hero Members are doing with their workouts. The app is a great feature and something you don’t get from a traditional gym.

BBVR: Do you have any advice for people who are just starting with Black Box VR or are still unsure about trying it?

Tevia: Do it! Commit to just trying it for a month at 2-3 times a week so you can get through the onboarding workouts. The fitness machine needs to calibrate to your fitness level, so it’s personalized for you. After that, you will see what it’s like day to day and then decide! I say all the time, there are always improvements that can be made to any fitness routine, but Black Box VR is better than going to the regular gym. I am grateful to have this to use!

BBVR: Is there anything we could add to the Black Box VR fitness experience that would make it better?

Tevia: The eight exercises in the game are great for a full-body workout, but I would love to have one more exercise added that targets my abs.

Tevia: Thank you for creating such a fun fitness program! I just want to say that I am not a gamer at all. I don’t have time to play games, but adding this gamified fitness routine to my life has been beneficial to my health, and I enjoy working out.
